We welcome you to the new and exciting world of owning a sphynx kitten.
Diet
Your kitty is used to premium dry foods.
It is important not to change their food to cheaper brands because they can suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. Our kittens are fed human grade beef mince, grated cheese, cooked fish, or chicken. Wet food must be offered twice a day and they are to be given access to dry food and water at all times. If you wish to offer milk, please ensure it is lactose-free and suitable for kittens. DO NOT GIVE COW’S MILK. Sphynx consume more food than a normal cat to keep warm so it is important to ensure they have biscuits down at all times.
Litter
Your kitten is fully toilet trained to use a litter tray. Your kitty is used to Breeder’s Choice Litter and Oz Pet Litter. Please do not use the clumping litter because your kitty may ingest it and it can affect their eyes, as they do not have eyelashes. Sphynx do go to the toilet more frequently and do not cover their poos.
Bathing
Sphynx are used to being bathed and need to be bathed once in three weeks depending on how oily their skin is. If you bathe the kitten too often they will get oily. We use top to toe baby wash to bathe them. Please fill the basin with warm water (not too warm) while making sure the kitten is not nearby. Cats are afraid of running water. Fill up a bucket with warm water. This will be used later to rinse the kitten. Place kitten in water. Water should only be about thigh high. Wet the kitten with the water while making sure its’ head and eyes do not come in contact with the water. Rub the baby wash on the kitten, making sure you rub between their toes as a lot of dirt tends to be embedded there. Use a small pail or jug to rinse the shampoo off. Eyes are to be cleaned with a makeup pad. In between baths, you can use a baby wipe on their bodies. Their ears will get dirty, please use a cotton bud to clean it. If it becomes a problem, ask your vet to issue some eardrops.
Sleeping
If you do not wish for your kitty to sleep with you, ensure that it has a bed of its own. Your kitten will love snuggling with you under the doona.
Topical Treatments
Due to the lack of fur, sphynx do not require any topical flea treatments. The skin is more sensitive than a normal cat and flea treatments can kill them.
Pet Insurance
Your kitten will leave here with free six weeks health insurance. The insurance company will contact you before this expires offering you further cover. We strongly urge you to consider taking the option of pet health cover.
We do sell K11s (airline-approved carriers) and keep them on hand. We do ship interstate and our transportation company of choice is Dogtainers. We also sell snugglesafes as I have had many enquiries on how to keep naked babies warm. They are much more reasonably priced as I buy them in quantity. Please email to enquire.
Snugglesafes are $50 plus postage and handling. Please go to website http://www.snugglesafe.co.uk/ for more information on how they look like and how to use them.
All my kittens go to indoor homes only as both breeds are more susceptible to sunburn. I also require new pet owners to sign a contract before committing to their kitten.
Deposits are non-refundable except when the kitten fails a vet-check.
We currently have a waiting list for our sphynx kittens so if you are interested in adopting one of my precious babies do contact us. I am very particular about where my babies go to so please don't be offended if I ask lots of questions because I believe that my babies deserve the very best.
Why I chose the prefix Manis
Manis is a Malay word for sweet. I thought it was a fitting word for my kittens and cats as I would always want them to be sweet in nature.
My name Sherin in persian it also means sweet.
We believe in showing our cats so if you are at a cat show and see a sphynx in Queensland more often that not it would us, so come over and say hello. I promise not to bite and if you have any questions feel free to ask. We will also let you handle and pet our cats so don't be shy.
Our sphynx prices will also vary in terms of whether you wish to show your cat and it depends on hairlessness. We are starting our outcross program soon as we have been granted an experimental license to extend our gene pool. Many thanks to QICC Inc for supporting us in this endeavour.
